He warns Ravana about Rama’s extraordinary strength.

Eventually, Maricha agrees to participate.
His role is to take the form of an extraordinary golden deer.

One day, Rama, Sita and Lakshmana are near their dwelling at Panchavati.

According to the traditional story, she wants the beautiful creature to be brought back to their dwelling.

At that moment, the illusion ends.
Maricha returns to his true form.
But before dying, he makes one final attempt to help Ravana’s plan.
According to the traditional account, Maricha cries out in a voice resembling Rama’s:
“Sita! Lakshmana!”
The sound travels through the forest.
Sita hears it.
She becomes extremely worried.

Back at the forest dwelling, Sita hears the cry.
She believes Rama may be in danger.
She asks Lakshmana to go and help him.
Lakshmana initially refuses.
He knows Rama is extremely powerful and believes the cry may be a trick.
He also has a direct responsibility to protect Sita.
But Sita becomes increasingly anxious.
The situation becomes emotionally intense.
Finally, Lakshmana decides to leave to search for Rama.

Lakshmana leaves the dwelling to find Rama.
For a short time, Sita is alone.

Instead, he presents himself as a religious traveller seeking hospitality.

Ravana eventually reveals that he is the ruler of Lanka.
He speaks about his power and wealth.
He attempts to persuade Sita to leave Rama and come with him.
But Sita refuses.

Ravana finally reveals his true form and takes Sita away.
The traditional Ramayana describes Ravana carrying Sita toward Lanka.

Eventually, Jatayu is seriously wounded.

During the journey, Sita attempts to leave signs that could help Rama find her.
Traditional accounts describe her dropping ornaments and other items.
These clues later become important when Rama begins searching for her.

🦅 Jatayu’s Final Message
After Ravana leaves with Sita, Rama and Lakshmana return.
They discover that Sita is missing.
They begin searching desperately.
Eventually, they find the wounded Jatayu.
Jatayu tells Rama what happened.
He explains that Ravana took Sita away toward the south.
This information becomes extremely important.
Jatayu then dies.

Rama is devastated by Sita’s disappearance.
He searches for her through the forest.
He asks trees, rivers, mountains and animals whether they have seen her.
The prince who had calmly accepted exile is now overwhelmed by the loss of Sita.

Rama decides that he will find Sita.
And he begins a journey that will eventually take him across India and toward Lanka.

Rama and Lakshmana continue searching.
They encounter several strange and dangerous situations.
Their search eventually brings them into contact with important characters who will change the direction of their journey.
One of the most important will be:

But before Rama meets Hanuman, several important events must take place.
Rama will encounter Kabandha.
Then he will be directed toward Sage Matanga’s region and the devoted Shabari.
And after that, Rama will reach Kishkindha.
There, his life will change again.
