In Part 7, Bharata returned to Ayodhya, learned about Rama’s exile and was devastated by the death of King Dasharatha.
He travelled to Chitrakuta and begged Rama to return.
But Rama refused because he had promised to complete the fourteen years of exile.
Rama gave Bharata his padukas, or sandals, as a symbol of his authority.
Bharata returned to Ayodhya.
Now Rama, Sita and Lakshmana continue their journey.

While Rama, Sita and Lakshmana are living at Panchavati, a new character enters the story.

Shurpanakha
She is traditionally described as a rakshasi and is connected with the family of Ravana, the ruler of Lanka.
Her arrival at Panchavati will set off a chain of events that eventually leads toward the central conflict of the Ramayana.
👀 Shurpanakha Meets Rama
Shurpanakha sees Rama and becomes interested in him.
She approaches Rama and expresses her desire to marry him.
Rama tells her that he is already married to Sita.
He then directs her toward Lakshmana.
The encounter becomes increasingly tense.
Shurpanakha becomes angry after being rejected.
She turns her attention toward Sita.
Lakshmana intervenes.
And the situation escalates.

⚔️ The Conflict With Shurpanakha
According to the traditional narrative, the encounter ends with Lakshmana disfiguring Shurpanakha.
Humiliated and furious, she seeks revenge.
She goes to her relatives in the region and tells them about what happened.
This eventually brings Khara and Dushana into the story.
They are powerful warriors associated with the forest region.

Khara and Dushana come with a large force to attack Rama.

And Ravana becomes interested in Sita.

The next chapter will introduce one of the most famous episodes in the Ramayana.
A mysterious golden deer appears near Rama and Sita’s dwelling.
Sita sees the extraordinary animal and becomes fascinated by it.
She asks Rama to capture it.
Rama follows the deer.
But the animal is not what it appears to be.
