The Rajasuya Yajna and Duryodhana’s Humiliation

Indraprastha had become a magnificent kingdom under the leadership of Yudhishthira.

The Pandavas were now respected by many kings, and their influence had grown greatly.

Yudhishthira decided to perform the Rajasuya Yajna, a grand royal ceremony through which a powerful king could establish his authority over other rulers.

But this great ceremony would also bring together Krishna, the Pandavas, many kings and the Kuru family.

And during this gathering, Duryodhana would experience something that would deepen his hatred toward the Pandavas.

1. Yudhishthira Prepares for the Rajasuya

Yudhishthira wanted the Rajasuya Yajna to be performed in a grand and proper manner.

For this to happen, the Pandavas needed the recognition of powerful kings.

The four younger Pandavas travelled in different directions.

They established the authority of Yudhishthira and returned with wealth and gifts from many kingdoms.

The preparations for the ceremony at Indraprastha became enormous.

Kings, princes, sages and important guests began arriving.

2. Krishna, Bhima and Arjuna Face Jarasandha

There was still one major obstacle.

Jarasandha, the powerful king of Magadha, controlled many kingdoms and had imprisoned numerous kings.

Krishna knew that Jarasandha needed to be defeated before Yudhishthira could complete the Rajasuya.

Krishna travelled with Bhima and Arjuna to challenge him.

Bhima fought Jarasandha in a long wrestling battle.

After a tremendous struggle, Bhima defeated him.

The imprisoned kings were released.

This victory greatly strengthened Yudhishthira’s position.

3. The Great Ceremony Begins

With the major preparations complete, the Rajasuya Yajna began at Indraprastha.

The gathering was magnificent.

Many great personalities of the Mahabharata were present.

- The Pandavas
- The Kauravas
- Many kings and sages
Everyone had an important role in the ceremony.

The atmosphere was filled with celebration and grandeur.

Bhishma declared that Krishna was worthy of the greatest respect.

Yudhishthira agreed.

Krishna was honoured before the assembled kings.

But not everyone was pleased.

A powerful king named Shishupala strongly objected.

He had a long-standing hatred toward Krishna.

5. Shishupala Insults Krishna

Shishupala became furious.

He began insulting Krishna in front of the entire assembly.

But Shishupala continued his insults.

Krishna remained calm for a long time.

He had promised Shishupala’s mother that he would forgive a certain number of Shishupala’s offences.

When Shishupala crossed that limit, Krishna finally acted.

6. Shishupala Is Defeated

Krishna used his Sudarshana Chakra against Shishupala.

Shishupala was killed.

The assembly became silent.

The Rajasuya ceremony continued.

Yudhishthira had successfully established his authority.

The Pandavas had reached the height of their power.

But Duryodhana was watching everything.

And what he saw filled him with jealousy.

7. Duryodhana Visits the Maya Sabha

The Pandavas and others reacted to the situation.

He understood that Yudhishthira had a weakness for gambling.

Shakuni suggested that Duryodhana invite Yudhishthira to Hastinapura for a game of dice.

11. Dhritarashtra Agrees

The Return to Hastinapura and the Birth of Indraprastha

After the Pandavas’ identity was revealed, the news reached Hastinapura.

The Kuru family now had to face a difficult reality: the Pandavas were alive, powerful and supported by King Drupada and the kingdom of Panchala.

Duryodhana wanted the Pandavas removed from his path, but Bhishma and Vidura wanted to prevent the Kuru family from destroying itself.

A compromise was eventually reached.

The Pandavas would receive their own kingdom.

This decision would lead to the creation of Indraprastha, one of the greatest cities in the Mahabharata.

1. The Pandavas Return to Hastinapura

When Dhritarashtra learned that the Pandavas were alive, he invited them back to Hastinapura.

The Pandavas returned with Draupadi.

Their arrival was an important moment for the Kuru family.

Bhishma was happy that the Pandavas had survived.

The greatest part of the confrontation would be between Bhima and Jarasandha.

12. Bhima Defeats Jarasandha

Jarasandha and Bhima fought an extraordinary wrestling battle.

The fight continued for a long time.

Both warriors were incredibly strong.

Eventually, Krishna gave Bhima a clue about Jarasandha’s weakness.

Bhima understood the message.

He defeated Jarasandha and ended his threat.

The victory opened the way for Yudhishthira to proceed with the Rajasuya ceremony.

The Pandavas had now become one of the most powerful royal families in the land.

The Rise of Indraprastha

The Pandavas had come a long way.

After escaping from the House of Lac, the Pandavas and Kunti were believed to be dead by the people of Hastinapura.

But they were alive.

The five brothers and their mother now had to travel secretly because returning openly to Hastinapura would have been dangerous.

Their journey through the forests would bring them face-to-face with new challenges, powerful enemies and an important kingdom where a great swayamvara was about to take place.

1. The Pandavas Leave the Burning Palace

After escaping through the secret tunnel beneath the House of Lac, the Pandavas and Kunti entered the forest.

They knew that their enemies believed them to be dead.

For their own safety, they decided not to reveal their identities.

The five brothers travelled with their mother and lived like ordinary people.

They dressed simply and often presented themselves as Brahmins.

Although they had lost their royal position for the moment, the Pandavas remained united.

Their strength was their brotherhood.

2. Bhima Protects His Family

During their journey, the Pandavas encountered several dangers.

Bhima’s enormous strength became extremely important.

Duryodhana’s Jealousy, The Poisoning of Bhima and the House of Lac

The rivalry between the Pandavas and Kauravas had now become much more serious.

The princes had grown into powerful young warriors. The Pandavas were respected by the people of Hastinapura, while Duryodhana increasingly feared that the Pandavas would eventually become more powerful than him.

Among all the Pandavas, Bhima was especially disliked by Duryodhana because of his extraordinary strength.

Duryodhana’s jealousy slowly turned into hatred, and he began making dangerous plans against his cousins.

1. Duryodhana’s Growing Jealousy

As the Pandavas and Kauravas grew older, people began noticing the qualities of the Pandavas.

Yudhishthira was respected for his honesty and sense of dharma.

Bhima was known for his tremendous physical strength.

Arjuna had become an extraordinary archer.

Nakula and Sahadeva were also talented and disciplined princes.

Duryodhana began to worry about the future.

He feared that Yudhishthira might eventually become king of Hastinapura.

Instead of accepting the Pandavas as his brothers and allies, Duryodhana allowed jealousy to grow inside him.

2. Bhima Becomes Duryodhana’s Main Target

Bhima was particularly strong.

During their childhood, the princes often played and trained together.

Bhima’s strength frequently gave the Pandavas an advantage.

Duryodhana could not tolerate this.

He began looking for a way to remove Bhima from his path.

The Pandavas waited for the right opportunity.

Eventually, the palace was set on fire.

The flames spread rapidly because the building was made from highly flammable materials.

The people who had planned the attack believed that the Pandavas and Kunti were trapped inside.

But the Pandavas had already prepared their escape.

They used the secret tunnel and managed to leave the burning palace.

The world believed that the Pandavas had died.

But they were alive.

Their survival would soon lead them into a completely new phase of their lives.

The Pandavas Disappear

After escaping the House of Lac, the Pandavas and Kunti decided to remain hidden.

They travelled through forests and unfamiliar places.
